Biography

Juergen Kurths is a German physicist and mathematician. He is a senior advisor in the field of interdisciplinary concepts and methods in the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, a Professor of Nonlinear Dynamics at the Institute of Physics at the Humboldt University, Berlin. He has become a fellow of Academia Europaea in 2010 and of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2012. Juergen Kurths mainly focuses on nonlinear dynamics and complex systems sciences. He has published more than 650 articles in academic journals with more than 8,600 citations and an H-index greater than 120, including 16 articles published in Nature and its sub-journals, 8 articles  published in PNAS and 43 articles published in Physical Review Letters. He has published five books, served on the editorial board of more than 10 scientific journals, and presided over more than 40 research projects with a total project funding of more than 30 million yuan. Kurths maintains a large network of scientific collaborators and he has had more than 90 PhD students from about 20 countries, 14 of whom have received Habilitation and 50 of whom now have tenured positions in various countries. He has mentored more than 30 Humboldt Scholars and more than 30 DAAD scholarship recipients. At the same time, he also trained many scholars for our country, including Professor Zhou Changsong (Hong Kong Baptist University), Professor Tang Yang (East China University of Science and Technology, 'ten thousand people plan' leading talent), Professor Yu Wenwu (Southeast University, Yangtze River scholar professor), Professor Wang Zhen (Northwestern Polytechnical University, National outstanding youth fund winner), Junior Principal Investigator Leng Siyang (Fudan Industrial Research Institute), etc. His main academic part-time jobs are editor-in-chief of the journal Chaos, President of the German Physical Society, etc.
