The 'Complex System Science and Innovation Application Seminar,' jointly organized by the Theoretical Research Department of Huawei 2012 Laboratory, Huawei Shanghai Research Institute and Research Institute of Intelligent Complex Systems of Fudan University, was successfully held in Shanghai on March 26, 2023. The conference aimed to delve into fundamental research problems and potential breakthroughs in key application domains of complex systems such as perception and computing through comprehensive discussions on the foundational theory, algorithmic technology and system innovation of the next generation of complex systems.

The seminar is attended by scholars and experts from Huawei, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University, University of Electronic Science and Technology, Shanghai Normal University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University as well as other universities, research institutions and enterprises. They have conducted extensive research on complexity in various fields including systems science, mathematics, physics, computer science, control science and information science. The conference has attracted over 150 scholars, experts, and students in related fields.

Qiu Xin, the Secretary of Fudan University's Party Committee, attended the seminar and delivered an opening speech emphasizing the application and innovative value of complex systems science in various fields. He expressed gratitude towards the organizers for providing a platform for academic-industry exchange and highlighted how this seminar will promote cooperation between academia and industry while providing new ideas and directions for future innovative development in complex systems science. Finally, he wished the symposium complete success.

During the seminar, Academician Guo Lei from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science at Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a keynote speech on "Some Basic Scientific Problems in Systematics," which deeply explored essential problems within systematics research. Subsequently, Professors Wang Xiaofan from Shanghai University, Cheng Jin and Lin Wei from Fudan University, Hong Yiguang and Yan Gang from Tongji University, Tang Yang from East China University of Science and Technology, Lu Linyuan from University of Electronic Science and Technology as well as Feng Haoyu, Sun Jie, and Li Jia from Huawei presented wonderful reports on hot spots and latest progress in network science research fields such as nonlinear system dynamics/analysis/control, Huawei optical network/Huawei Cloud complex system etc., offering new insights into complex system science and its innovative applications.

Finally, the Best Poster Award of the seminar was awarded to Luo Xinyue, Zheng Ruizhe and Shen Hanxiang through the Poster exchange session. Professor Sun Jie from Huawei and Professor Lin Wei from Fudan University presented awards to the winners.

The successful holding of this symposium will undoubtedly promote cross-disciplinary research and innovative applications in related fields of complex systems science, as well as advance complexity research.
