Research Institute of Intelligent Complex Systems is a second-level physical scientific research institution of Fudan University. The institute leverages the strengths of multiple key disciplines, including mathematics, physics, computer science, brain and artificial intelligence, biology, information science, medicine, etc., to focus on the fundamental theory of system science and complexity as well as cutting-edge intelligent technology. Its mission is to cultivate high-level interdisciplinary talents in complex system science and engineering while undertaking national major scientific research projects to generate original achievements. The goal is to establish an internationally renowned academic platform in the field of complexity science research and prioritize the cultivation of high-level talents with expertise in basic theories of complex system science and multidisciplinary knowledge background capable of conducting comprehensive interdisciplinary research.

As the main unit, the institute has established 'complex system science and engineering' as a first-level discipline under cross-categories. This includes three second-level disciplines: 'complex system theory,' 'complex system modeling and regulation,' and 'complex system engineering and application.'

  1. Complex Systems Theory: Complex system theory focuses on evolutionary theories for complex systems such as macroscopy-mesoscopic-microscopic complex systems. It studies the fundamental properties and evolution mechanisms of these systems by revealing commonalities across various domains along with mathematical principles governing their evolution processes. Ultimately it aims to establish a foundational theoretical framework for understanding complex systems.

  2. Complex Systems Modeling and Regulation: Complex System Modeling and Regulation focuses on the theoretical analysis and modeling of complex systems of life, the research on bionic intelligent algorithms and key technologies, the prediction and regulation of intelligent complex systems, language cognitive modeling and computing technology, etc.

  3. Complex Systems Engineering and Application: Complex Systems Engineering and Application bases on complex systems theory and complex systems technology, studies the structure and evolution of intelligent systems, realizes the modeling, optimization, integrated analysis and regulation of intelligent complex systems and provide theoretical basis and various effective integration methods for the systems to achieve optimal control and efficient management.

make outstanding achievements in engineering, biology, mathematics, physics, medicine, computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence, nonlinear and complexity science, neuroscience, language science and other research fields.

researchers who are expected to further make major breakthroughs in the discipline field and to lead the direction of the future discipline field;


researchers with academic ability equivalent to that of professors/associate professors in leading foreign universities or researchers funded by the National Outstanding Youth Funds.


Working Condition and Compensation:


appointed as Professor or Researcher;


The annual salary will be 600,000 – 800,000 yuan, and the housing allowance will be 3,000,000 – 4,000,000 yuan.


The research start-up funding will be 5,000,000 – 8,000,000 yuan.

The annual salary will be 400,000 – 800,000 yuan, and the housing allowance will be 900,000 – 1,000,000 yuan;


The research start-up funding will be 1,000,000 -3,000,000 yuan.

4.Postdoctoral researchers


Application Requirements:


In principle, the age required is not more than 35 years old (excellent researchers are not subject to the age limit).

1.basic compensation: The annual salary is not less than 250,000 yuan;

2.after selected as a ‘super postdoctoral researcher’ of Fudan University: The annual salary will be 300,000-350,000 yuan;

3.after selected as Shanghai Super Postdoctoral researcher: The annual salary will be 350,000-400,000 yuan;

4.after selected into Fudan Special Talent Plan or New Plan for Doctors: The annual salary will be 450,000-500,000 yuan.
